Teenage Groupwork Workshops

Fèis Rois Teenage Groupwork workshops are for all secondary pupils, and offer a range of workshops catering for all ability levels. We aim to build performance skills and confidence whilst extending knowledge and repertoire of Highland songs, tunes and Gaelic language.

These workshops are taught by some of Scotland’s top musicians in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and they are great opportunities for young musicians to meet each other and learn new skills and be inspired to form their own bands. The workshops are suitable for fiddle, accordion, harp, small pipes, flute, tin whistle, guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, piano/keyboard and banjo players who play by ear and/or play by reading music. Gaelic-medium groupwork workshops are also organised and some focus on Gaelic song and song accompaniment. We also welcome young musicians who play classical, rock and jazz music to come and try traditional Scottish music at these workshops.

Quotes from last years’ participants:

Siannie Moodie really enjoyed the workshop on group music and accompaniment with Ingrid Henderson on harp. Siannie says that the Fèis has given her more confidence to perform in front of an audience.

Over the last two years Alasdair Turner has been to every Teenage Groupwork workshop and he has met new friends and learnt exciting tunes. His favourite workshop was with Aidan O’ Rourke and Marc Clement, where he learnt contemporary Scottish tunes that Aidan O’ Rourke had composed for his debut solo album "Sirius"
