Highland YMI

We co-ordinate traditional music in 99 primary schools across Ross-shire, Inverness and Caithness on behalf of Fèisean nan Gàidheal who manage the project for Highland Council.  This project is funded through the Youth Music Initiative.

A vibrant team of professional musicians deliver workshops for P5 pupils in either tin whistle, group music making, Scots song and/or Gaelic song.

Fèis contribute hugely to our delivery of music outcomes. The tutors have enabled us to teach aspects of music that class teachers do not have the skills or expertise. Ranging from learning an instrument to reading music to performing to parents. The recent tutors I have had have been great fun, hugely knowledgeable of music and inspirational. I love seeing reluctant singers unable to help but enjoy themselves when they get stuck into Fèis activities.

We are delighted that some of the tutors involved in the delivery of this project have grown up attending Fèis Rois events as children/young people or have experienced the project themselves as pupils.
